Introduction to Lung Cancer

Lung cancer develops when certain cells in the lungs grow abnormally to form a tumor. Lung cancer is a serious condition that is usually diagnosed by a lung doctor but requires a multi-disciplinary team to manage.

Common Symptoms due to Lung Cancer:

  • Quite often patients have no symptoms at all
  • Coughing up blood (hemoptysis)
  • Abnormal chest X-ray or a CT scan
  • Abnormal weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Hoarse voice

Diagnosis and Treatment of Lung Cancer

A biopsy is required to determine the type of lung cancer following a thorough radiologic and physical examination. When you come to Breathe Oklahoma, you'll receive full care based on state-of-the-art medical knowledge and current clinical practices. You'll get comprehensive care that includes diagnosis, staging, and directions for appropriate therapy. Once we have accurate information, we'll work with you to select a treatment modality that incorporates surgical or medical oncology. We'll help you make appropriate decisions about your care and help co-ordinate care with cancer specialists across several institutions in Oklahoma. Call us to schedule your appointment.

Screening for Lung Cancer

Lung cancer screening is done in people who are at a higher risk for lung cancer, before they develop any symptoms of lung cancer. This is done using CT scan protocols based on the risk factor profile. At Breathe Oklahoma, we help patients with lung cancer screening and surveillance using nationally validated protocols. Call Breathe Oklahoma to schedule a shared decision making appointment.
